Important reasons to use Bane of Arthropods in Minecraft

What is the bane of arthropods enchantment?

Bane of Arthropods is an enchantment in Minecraft that increases damage dealt to arthropod mobs such as spiders, cave spiders, endermites, bees, and silverfish. This enchantment can be applied to weapons such as axes and swords.

Effects of the enchantment

Each level of the enchantment causes the weapon to do 2.5 more damage to athropods per level of the enchantment, which stops at bane of athropods V. This means that a netherite sword with the max version of the enchantment goes from 8 damage to 20.5 damage on anthropods. Critical damage does affect this, including using a fully charged attack on Java Edition.

The enchantment will also inflict slowness IV on anthropods that are hit with a weapon with the enchantment on it. The slow lasts a random duration of 1 to 1.5 seconds at level 1, but increases by 0.5 per level of the enchantment. This means the maximum level of the enchantment will cause the maximum duration of the slow to last roughly 3 to 3.5 seconds.

Uses for the enchantment

This enchantment is notably useful when raiding strongholds and end cities, as these are known places to have plenty of mobs that are weak to the bane of arthropods enchantment. It’s also quite handy for killing spiders when you have a spider farm.

Incompatibilities with bane of arthropods

Bane of Arthropods is incompatiable with Sharpness, Smite, and Cleaving (which is  je combat tests exclusive).

This means that if you’re looking to kill a variety of things, such as zombies, skeletons, or other Minecraft players, this might not be the enchantment for you.

However, the enchantment does allow the stacking of effects if you use commands to put multiple enchants on the same sword. In theory, you could have a sword with sharpness and bane of anthropods.

When was bane of arthropods added?

Bane of Artohropods was one of the original enchantments added to one of the first versions of the game during prerelease of Minecraft.

However, Minecraft added endermites and added bees much later to the game during 14w11a and 19w36a, respectively. They both were released with the ability to take extra damage from the enchantment.

How do I obtain Bane of Arthropods?

There are quite a few ways to obtain the bane of arthropods enchantment. It’s a rather common enchantment, meaning that there are multiple ways to obtain it.

Enchantment Table

A possible way to obtain the enchantment is through an enchanting table (this is a pretty common way to obtain the enchantment). Using 1-3 lapis lazuli (depending on the enchantment level), you can obtain it by random chance at any level of the enchantment. You can either enchant the tool directly or enchant a book to see if you happen to get the enchantment. Then you can follow the directions below to apply the book to your tools.

Fishing

One of the possible ways is through fishing using a fishing pole, where you have a random chance to fish for the enchantment along with other enchantments. You can use the luck of the sea enchantment to increase this chance further. This is an important enchantment if you plan on using this method quite a bit.

Trading

Players can obtain the bane of arthropods enchantment from villager trades with librarian villagers. You should be able to look for a specific level lof the enchantment from this method, which is quite helpful. By breaking and placing down the librarian’s lectern, you can reset their trades. This can be done an infinite number of times by trapping the villager in a small space and constantly breaking and replacing the lectern. However, once you purchase anything from that librarian, the trade will be locked, regardless of whether it is reset. This is one of the best ways to get any level of boa including boa i, boa ii, boa iii, boa iv, and boa v.

Raids

Players can also obtain the enchanted book for bane of arthropods from raid drops. Raids are called upon when a player walks into a village with a “bad omen” status effect. By killing the invaders, you can obtain different loot, including the enchantment. This is notable for only the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft.

Applying the enchantment

Once you receive the enchanted book with bane of arthropods, you can use an anvil to apply the enchantment to your axe or sword. It can be applied to both unenchanted items and weapons with other enchantments on them. You can also use an anvil to combine the enchant, such as combining two Boa IV books into a Boa V book.

Game Commands

You can apply the enchantment to your sword or axe by using in-game commands as well. By using the command “/enchant @p bane of arthropods 5,” you can apply the enchantment to your weapon. The level of enchantment can go past 5, but this usually does not matter in most cases.
